The JBL 4310 is the true ancestor of an entire dynasty of legendary monitors, including the 4311, 4312, L100 Century, 4313, 4410, and 4412. Its development began when recording studios asked JBL to create a compact control-room monitor that could deliver the dynamics and accuracy of the company’s large studio systems in a smaller, more practical format.
The 4310 holds a unique place in JBL history as the only model in the 4310/4311/4312 family to feature an Alnico-magnet tweeter, a design prized today for its smoothness, refinement, and musical character.
The unusual driver layout was intentional. The 4310 was designed to be used horizontally on top of a mixing console.
The 4310 quickly found its way into countless American recording studios and became part of the golden age of analog recording. Many classic albums from the late 1960s and early 1970s were monitored and mixed through JBL studio monitors derived from this groundbreaking design
While originally developed as a professional studio monitor, the 4310 is equally admired in high-end home audio systems. Its lively dynamics, natural midrange, and engaging presentation make it just as enjoyable for hi-fi listening as it is for studio monitoring
